We are creating cultural and structural change in the maritime, construction, and transport industries so that more women not only enter these industries but stay and thrive.
Our work is rooted in collaboration, on-the-ground insight, and evidence-based practice.
Whether you are a worker, a union official, or an employer, this is your place to find tools, research, and a community to help build respectful, safe and inclusive workplaces.
Watch the video below to hear Aaron discuss his journey with change in the maritime industry. what change looks like when it starts at work.
ABOUT
Queensland Women Rise is a collaborative project dedicated to increasing women's participation and retention in the secure, organised industries of construction, maritime, and transport.
We recognise that too many workers are excluded or pushed out of these sectors because of inflexible work arrangements, and disrespectful workplace cultures. Our goal is to build workplaces where everyone is safe, valued, and able to thrive.
We work with workers, unions, and employers to identify the barriers that hold workers back from staying in organised, secure workplaces, then through delivered workshops, we implement practical solutions.
Whether it's:
improving access to flexible rosters,
providing safe and properly resourced facilities, or
changing the way people speak to and about each other,
the changes we pursue make workplaces stronger for everyone. Our team of Workplace Engagement Leads (WELs) come directly from the industries we partner with, so they know what works and what doesn't.
We believe that meaningful change comes from listening, learning, and acting together.
Queensland Women Rise began with a question: why are so many women missing from our well paid, secure, unionised industries? We knew there had to be more to the problem than individual choices. It turned out that the barriers were structural and cultural.
